چکیده

The mathematical morphology is a non-linear image processing approach which is based on the application of lattice theory to spatial structures. This technique is proven to be a very powerful tool in microscopic image analysis. In this chapter, we present the architecture of a system of quantitative microscopy which yields an integrated platform for the morphological image analysis, pattern recognition, and visual content-based indexing of peripheral blood smear wide microscopic fields. This image analysis approach, based on tools of mathematical morphology, provides an objective description of blood cells and more specifically the system is designed to assist pathologists to diagnose lymphoproliferative disorders within a telepathology context.

A mathematical morphology approach to cell shape analysis

Morphological analysis of cells (size, shape, texture, etc.) is fundamental in quantitative cytology. Anomalies and variations from the typical cell are associated with pathological situations, e.g., useful in cancer diagnosis, in cellbased screening of new active molecules, etc. Mathematical morphology is a nonlinear image processing technique based on minimum and maximum operations [SER82], i...

Working Document Wd54 Fourier Analysis, Mathematical Morphology, and Vision

Two opposite orientations in image analysis are given on the one hand by linear ltering, spectrometry, and Fourier analysis, and on the other hand by mathematical morphology, which emphasizes order relations and set-theoretical properties. The former derives its appeal from its wide application in the processing of sound signals, while the latter has been sucessfully used in the analysis of mat...

REVIEW Digital imaging of haematological morphology

Microscopic images of haematological cells are now routinely photographed using digital cameras. Advances in technology mean that the quality of such digital images can now approach that viewed through a microscope. At the same time there is an emerging appreciation that such images can be used in many roles: digital images are now being used to construct digital virtual slides , or are being e...

Abduction in Description Logics using Formal Concept Analysis and Mathematical Morphology: Application to Image Interpretation

We propose an original way of enriching Description Logics with abduction reasoning services by computing the best explanations of an observation through mathematical morphology (using erosions) over the Concept Lattice of a background theory. The intended application is scene understanding and spatial reasoning.

Pap smear cell image classification using global MPEG-7 descriptors

Background Several strategies have been previously applied for classifying cervical cytology cells, all pursuing a nucleus segmentation. Sanchez sets regions [1] using a simple threshold [2], a procedure broadly adapted to different techniques: a local adaptive segmentation nuclei procedure [3], seed growing [4], mathematical morphology [5], a Hough transform [6], and active contours [7]. Jantz...
